Một lần nữa nữ bá tước Lara Croft xinh đẹp sẽ tái ngộ những fan hâm mộ trong phiên bản mới nhất của sê ri game Tomb Raider mang tên Underworld với nhiều hấp dẫn, bất ngờ về tàn tich Mayan cổ xưa.
Hãng phát hành Eidos vừa tiết lộ thêm nhiều thông tin xoay quanh phiên bản Tomb Raider: Underworld. Theo đó, có vẻ như đây sẽ là một trong những phiên bản được đầu tư kĩ càng nhất, kì vọng sẽ là bước đột phá cho dòng Tomb Raider nổi tiếng hơn một thập kỉ qua. Sau thành công lớn của 2 phiên bản Legend và Anniversary, nhóm phát triển Crystal Dynamics tiếp tục là sự lựa chọn của Eidos cho việc xây dựng thế giới Underworld đầy bí ẩn, nơi hiện diện của bóng tối và tội ác.
Trong buổi thuyết trình trước các phóng viên, nhà phát hành đưa ra những hình ảnh đầu tiên về Tomb Raider: Underworld với 4 màn chơi thử. Lara sẽ chu du giữa những tàn tích của thành phố cổ Mayan, Mexico. Nhiệm vụ của cô tại đây là tìm đường xuống mê cung ngầm dưới lòng đất, nơi cất giấu những bí ẩn của cả một nền văn minh cổ đại. Và tất nhiên, người chơi sẽ phải giúp bá tước xinh đẹp hoàn thành sứ mệnh của mình trước hàng loạt mối nguy hiểm cận kề.
Trí thông minh nhân tạo trong phiên bản này được cải tiến hơn rất nhiều, kẻ thù của Lara Croft giờ đây không còn như trước nữa. Cụ thể là lũ báo đen Nam Mĩ trở nên nguy hiểm bội phần với chiêu bài vờn mồi và bất ngờ tấn công chính diện khi thời cơ đến. Chúng bám theo chân bạn vào sâu trong các lăng mộ rồi mới tung ra hàng loạt cú táp sắc bén, nếu bị rơi vào hoàn cảnh trớ trêu này, bạn đừng mong có thể sử dụng súng, vì không gian chiến đấu trở nên quá chật hẹp và tối tăm.
Nhưng tất nhiên, nàng Lara Croft đâu dễ bị khuất phục như vậy. Với những pha tung mình, di chuyển liên hoàn nhanh như điện xẹt và đặc biệt là cặp súng ngắn trong tay, nhân vật chính của chúng ta có thể dễ dàng hạ gục bất cứ kẻ thù nào. Đại diện của Eidos cho biết Lara đã được trang bị thêm kĩ năng bắn nhiều mục tiêu cùng lúc, game cũng cho phép người chơi nhặt nhạnh đồ vật và thậm chí là sử dụng nhiều loại vũ khí mới toanh chưa từng xuất hiện trong các phiên bản trước.
Trong phiên bản này, toàn bộ hình ảnh của Lara Croft được chau chuốt hơn rất nhiều. Từ cử chỉ cho tới những biểu cảm trên nét mặt đều được xây dựng sống động như thật. Bạn sẽ có dịp chiêm ngưỡng vẻ quyết tâm khi chiến đấu cùng với nụ cười mê hồn của Lara sau mỗi nhiệm vụ được hoàn thành tốt đẹp. Thậm chí, mỗi khi nhân vật chính phải trườn qua các mô đá hoặc lăn dưới nền đất đều để lại những vết bẩn trên quần áo và chúng sẽ được gột rửa khi cô nàng đứng dưới trời mưa. Được biết, để những hành động của Lara giống thật hơn, đội ngũ sản xuất đã mô phỏng toàn bộ cử chỉ của nàng dựa trên động tác của các vận động viên Olympic chuyên nghiệp trong các pha leo bám, tung mình trên những vác đá cheo leo.
Dĩ nhiên, giải đố là một phần không thể thiếu của dòng game Tomb Raider, và trong Underworld, nhà phát hành hứa hẹn sẽ không bỏ qua yếu tố quan trọng ấy. Trên đường vào sâu trong lòng đất, Lara Croft phải đối mặt với rất nhiều tình huống giải đố hóc búa và đa dạng. Để giải quyết chúng, người chơi có thể thỏa sức lựa chọn các phương án tùy theo cá tính cũng như phong cách của bản thân.
Sẽ thật thiếu sót khi không nhắc tới mặt hình ảnh mà đội ngũ sản xuất mang lại cho phiên bản này. Theo như những màn chơi thử mà Eidos quảng cáo thì môi trường trong game được tô điểm bằng hai hiệu ứng tân tiến là kĩ thuật ánh sáng động và đổ bóng thời gian thực. Điều này có nghĩa là mỗi khi Lara đứng cạnh các vật thể, thì màu sắc của chúng sẽ hòa vào màu y phục của cô nàng. Cảnh vật xung quanh khu tàn tích Mayan sống động không khác gì ngoài đời, bạn có thể nhìn thấy bóng của từng đám mây trên cao in xuống nền đá rêu mốc, cũng như những tán cây rung động và oằn lại sau mỗi cơn gió mạnh. Theo một số nguồn tin, đội ngũ sản xuất đã phải tham khảo hàng nghìn bức ảnh chụp tư liệu về các khu rừng rậm Mexico để giúp tăng tính chân thực cho hình ảnh trong game.
Hãng phát hành Eidos cũng tiết lộ nhiệm vụ mà Lara phải thực hiện trong Underworld là tìm cách mở ra cánh cửa kết nối tới thế giới Xibalba cổ xưa. Theo lịch của người Mayan thì cánh cửa này chỉ được mở ra trong phạm vi 5 ngày thiếu sót mỗi một năm , vì thế nhân vật chính cần điều chỉnh thời điểm thực tại trở về một trong 5 ngày này thông qua một hệ thống điều khiển bí mật trong khu tàn tích.
Game sẽ đổ bộ trên tất cả các hệ máy PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS trong năm 2008. Và với những gì chúng ta biết được ở thời điểm hiện tại, thì Tomb Raider: Underworld thực sự là người kế nghiệp xứng đáng cho dòng game hấp dẫn này.
