Nếu máy tính chưa được gắn modem nhưng bạn lại muốn thực tập các thao tác kết nối dial-up thì chương trình này sẽ tạo ra thiết bị ảo có giá trị như thật. Các phòng thực hành tin cũng có thể áp dụng phần mềm này để không tốn tiền trang bị.

Khi bạn nhấn vào nút Add modem là chỉ trong vòng vài giây, một thiết bị mà máy tính xem như một modem thật sẽ được cài đặt.

Để kiểm tra sự tồn tại của modem này, bạn vào menu Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options để xác định, hoặc vào System > Hardware > Device Manager > Modem để tìm. Sau khi đã cài modem ảo, bạn có thể thực tập mọi thiết lập kết nối Dial-up như với một modem thật, nhưng tất nhiên, nó không thể truy cập được vào mạng điện thoại.

Tuy vậy, khi mạng nội bộ dùng Internet, bạn vẫn có thể sử dụng máy con trong mạng của mình để kết nối ra ngoài theo đường dial-up. Điều kiện là bạn phải biết các thông số chính xác của Server port, Host port, thiết lập đúng cổng, máy chủ có gắn modem, được sự chấp thuận của nhân viên quản trị mạng…

Giá trị chủ yếu của phần mềm này là tạo ra một modem ảo hỗ trợ cho các máy tính nối mạng tốc độ cao, có thể sử dụng các ứng dụng Fax hệt như một máy Fax chính hiệu.



Virtual Modem PRO was developed to build solution virtual IP-modems and to map them to virtual serial ports in your OS.

Virtual Modem Pro emulates standard hardware modems. The main difference is that instead of using conventional telephone line, it uses Ethernet network, including Internet, VLAN, VPN, etc.

Standard modems are connected to the computer via serial ports (COM1/COM2 or COM3/COM4). Virtual modem uses virtual serial ports that are complete copies of real serial ports.

The main advantages of Virtual Modem Pro is speed and reliability of the transmitted data (since it uses fast Ethernet network and reliable TCP/IP protocol) as well as a
considerable number (up to 255) of modems that can be created in any system. Every automation system that collects data from the remote hosts using modem and telephone line can greatly benefit from implementing Virtual Modem PRO.

Among these are manufacturing/warehouse DAQ systems, fiscal/data transfers in a banking system, retail management, etc. Virtual Modem PRO uses virtual serial ports technology which fully emulates real serial ports and duplicates all their functionality.

To create such connection the first virtual modem (local host) should be configured as a TCP/IP server that listens to incoming connections, while the other one (remote host) should be configured as a client to initiate the call. Every instance of the virtual modem could be configured to be server or client at any time depending whether you want to generate outgoing call or accept it (same as standard modems).

In addition, you may specify the TCP port which will be used to establish the link and IP-address or hostname of the server to connect to. In order to establish such client-server connection you should install and set up Virtual Modem PRO on both ends. Single license allows you to install and use Virtual Modem PRO on two computers in a network.
